Review: Blue Waters, Antigua (4.5 Star)

Overview:
15 mins from airport
20 mins from St. John’s
North East side of island (Atlantic side)
3 Pools
3 Restaurants
4 Bars
93 Rooms (in small 1-2 storey buildings)
All Inclusive

This is a beautiful luxury cliff-side resort that is laid back, and ideal for couples or even families and almost has the vibe of a coastal European village. What stands out the most is the tropical gardens, and cascading villas along the cliffs.
The resort consists of several small white buildings which either have regular rooms or apartment style living. You can book individual rooms, or family suites with private pools. I think the only thing that stops this resort from being a 5 Star is the beach. It is very small and can’t fit too many people. (which is still very private since there’s only 93 rooms) They try to make up for it by having several pools throughout the resort. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and had high service standards. You can tell they go the extra step to welcome you on your vacation.

Accommodations:

The regular rooms (Hillside or Beachfront) were very nice, very modern and have lovely bathrooms – these come with a King Bed. There are many options for families: Cove Suites, Hillside Jr. Suites, and Beachfront Jr. Suites. These have 1 King Bed plus a sofa bed. These junior suites have a patio, or balcony and living room with a mini fridge. The beachfront rooms aren’t ON the beach, you still have to walk down the hill to get to the beach, but you can see the beach and water from the room.

Pools:

There are several pools, and all are small to medium sized. The main one has a swim up bar and a beautiful view of the water and beach.

Beach:

There is one main beach (small) and a tiny extra beach on the other side of the peninsula. Both have great white sand and beautiful blue water but can’t fit very many people. I wouldn’t go to this resort if you`re a big beach lover. It didn’t look like there was too much available for water activities, though it is offered.

Facilities:

There are 3 restaurants, spread out throughout a fairly large resort. We ate at one for lunch and the food was spectacular – great quality, gourmet food and the service staff were excellent. They also have a grill by the pool/beach area. The ground of this resort are kept in amazing shape – wonderful gardens, plants, etc. - We didn’t get to experience any of the entertainment, but were told they have entertainment most evenings. There may be 1-2 nights a week where it is quieter. If you have mobility issues this resort is not very easy to get around. There are a lot of stairs as it`s on a cliff. They do offer a golf cart shuttle to take you around, however. There is a wonderful spa on site with an infinity plunge pool that overlooks the cliff, just stunning.

Overall, this resort may have been my favourite in Antigua. The beach wasn`t my favourite, but the rooms, service, staff, pools definitely were. There is a nice vibe around the whole resort that is really relaxing and charming. It`s quiet, yet happy. This resort is very ideal for long stays in their villas.
